The challenge
How do you bring scientists, designers, business stakeholders and users together when they speak different languages and approach problems from different perspectives?
At Philips, I developed a story-based approach to multidisciplinary co-creation.
My role
Program lead · Facilitator · Method developer · Intellectual property liaison
The approach
Instead of starting with a technology and asking how it could be used, we used storytelling and creative design methods to explore experiences, needs and possible futures.
Across 20+ R&D projects, participants created and explored stories around emerging technologies such as AI assistants, smart sensing and mixed reality.
The outcome
The process generated new use scenarios and business opportunities for healthcare technologies, including the Smart X-Ray Changing Room, and contributed to 60+ patent applications.

What participants say
“When you come together with designers, with people in business, with people from research, that ’s where the magic happens.”
“Collaborative storytelling gives a completely different angle than this technology push. The ideation is richer, it gives you more avenues for coming up with ideas.”
