The challenge
What happens when the expectation to be the hero becomes exhausting?
We are surrounded by stories about exceptional individuals who overcome obstacles, achieve more and save the day. The Tired Hero questions this traditional Hero's Journey and invites us to imagine other ways of creating change.
My role
Artist · Method developer · Facilitator
The approach
I created a comic (read here →) and workshop format exploring alternative hero archetypes — collective, feminist, absurdist and anti-hero — and how they can lead to different mindsets. In the workshop, participants create their own hero stories through drawing, writing and conversation, exploring how they want to contribute to change.
The outcome
The Tired Hero has been used in conferences, coaching, education, and consultancy, including the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels in collaboration with the NEB Stewardship Lab.
What participants say
“Stepping in the shoes of a wandering hero like Alice in Wonderland reminded us to be more curious and open when navigating change.”
“No hero can tackle the sustainability challenge we face; we need diverse heroes who collaborate.”
