Sustainable Parenthood

Systemic storytelling for product innovation

The challenge

How can Philips contribute to more sustainable forms of parenthood while responding to the realities of a competitive market?

The challenge was not simply to design a better product, but to understand the relationships between social trends, sustainability, parenting and business.


My role

The approach

We mapped relationships between global trends, sustainability and parenting using systemic design methods — including systems maps, systems stories and user-centred insight cards — and explored key leverage points through user interviews.


The outcome

The work revealed opportunities to address mental well-being and choice overload, two critical concerns for Gen Z parents. These insights informed the Mother & Child Care business in developing its sustainable product vision and roadmap.
